Food insecurity is defined by the UN FAO as the “situation when people lack secure access to sufficient amounts of safe and nutritious food for normal growth and development and an active and healthy life”.

Food insecurity can be caused by a number of factors, including the unavailability of food, unaffordable food and unequal distribution of food. Food insecurity is one of the major causes of poor nutrition. Undernourishment is a leading risk factor for death and other health consequences (11% of the world’s population is undernourished – 820 million people globally). Moreover, food safety issues on a global level continue to be of concern with an estimated 600 million people – almost one in twelve people globally – falling ill after eating contaminated food, and with 420,000 food safety related deaths every year. As we understood that having a diet which is both sufficient in terms of energy (caloric) requirements and diverse to meet additional nutritional needs is essential for good health, we have developed ODA – Optimum Dynamic Activities, the 1st concept of ready-to-eat nutritionally controlled food tablet, no water and heating needed, easy to transport and store.

It can be an optimum solution when it comes to feeding post-disaster areas or during military or space missions. The ODA tablets are designed to be used in zero gravity. ODA can even be designed in 24H REM ratio packages, including dessert.

Additionally, appropriate labels and warnings could easily be incorporated onto packaging.

There are significant cost savings, resulting from reduced food waste, because of better suitability and control of food served according to the nutrition needs.
